After trying it all I can say is I kinda feel sorry for guys that are playing AOE3. I came to this game due to friend wanting me to try it out. In wc3 that is exactly what happens as well however, with out all the minuates of using 100 resource gatherers. the concept of economy in rts game is to make one sufficent enough to field units, get a tech advantage, and then fighting to be able to gain map control. People might argue economy aoe3 is better. I cant remember where I first heard about Dark Sector, but it came up in. All units are basically used and massing is simply not an option.įighting = WC3 > (much much bigger) > AOE3 Jedi Knight II has long been one of my favourite Expanded Universe adventures. YOU HAVE TO worry about losing units in fear of buffing enemy heroes too much. Battles are won through micro intense fast pace action. There is almost no way a lower "skilled" player can beat a higher skilled player. OFten times professionals can face armies that are twice their size (food and resources and numbers wise) and STILL come out ontop with minimal losses due to the fact that they had slightly better "basic unit vs unit attack counters" along with "ability counters for units" Skill SHOWS. With all that put together, it is HELL of a micro battle. Almost every unit in the game has 1 or more abilities with the ability to control up to 3 heroes, each with 4 abilities and the ability to use 6 items. The fighting in WC3 is significantly different. Even then, the microing just involves moving firing together etc. Mercs might be the only things worth microing and some early game units. The attack move button is bugged, and there's almost no "abilities" that units have to make for a more micro intensive game. Rock paper scissors will usually dictate battles, and the amount of microing involves aiming cannon at troops for maximum efficiency and getting counters to fight what they counter. Fighting wise, this game is semi cookie cutter with 2-3 types of infantry and 2 types of calvary and 2 basic types of cannons ( I know I put a lot of things together, but lets face it, units without special abilities that serve same purpose will usually be the same basic type). There are up and downsides to both games however, I think for someone that is interested in a "skill" oriented game, WC3 easily takes the cake. With that said, I will most likely be biased to WC3, but still give AOE3 justice). (i am a long time wc3 player, and a semi professional in the RTS sector of gaming with much experience backing my claims up. After playing both games, I would like to make a comment on these 2 games.
